useSystemVolume

A React hook that returns the current system output volume and re-renders the component whenever the user changes it, for example with the hardware volume buttons.

While a component using the hook is mounted, the hook:

• enables volume observation with observeVolumeChanges,
• subscribes to the volumeChange system event,
• disables the observation and removes the subscription when the component unmounts.

Platform support

On iOS, volume changes are reported only while the audio session is active.

Volume observation does not work on the iOS Simulator. Test it on a physical device.

Return value

Returns number.

The system output volume in the range 0 to 1, rounded to two decimal places.

The hook starts at 0 and updates on the first volume change, so the value does not reflect the real volume until the user changes it.
